Summer Institutes

Each summer we hold two institutes on the campus of Columbus State Community College in Columbus Ohio.

The QuantNet leader institute is a 3-day meeting for QR leaders.

The QuantNet teaching workshop is a 1-day workshop for anyone connected to the QR courses on their campuses.

QuantNetOhio

QuantNetOhio is creating a professional development network for Ohio public institutions of higher education.

The professional development focuses on instructors of Quantitative Reasoning courses.

QUILT

Our project goals are (i) to foster high-quality QR instruction; (ii) to develop pairs of QR instructors as institutional leaders; and (iii) to create sustainable institutionally based QR instructor learning teams—to be known as QUILTs.

Objectives

  1. Develop pairs of IHE-based QUILT leaders. We will build and refine an annual three-day QUILT leader institute to prepare pairs of leaders in understanding and implementing high-quality QR instruction and in leading a QUILT at their home institution.
  2. Launch the QUILTs. We will kick off these institution-based QUILTs via an annual one-day QuantNet teaching workshop to help QR instructors teach and assess students using inquiry pedagogies and principles.
  3. Support via follow-through. We will create follow-through webinars to support the QUILT leaders and QR instructors throughout the ensuing academic year.
  4. Research the effectiveness of the PD. We will conduct research to address the project’s research question: How can we prepare Ohio’s diverse IHE instructional workforce to teach high-quality QR at scale?

QuantNet Ohio has focused on creating a network of Ohio public institutions of higher learning. These institutions belong to the Ohio Articulation Transfer Network (OT36) and implement quantitative courses based on an agreed upon list of learning outcomes, TMM 011 - Quantitative Reasoning.

This year we are branching out and including several schools from outside Ohio.

QuantNet is creating a professional development network with support from NSF Grant Award 2216197, Ohio University, and Columbus State Community College.
